The purpose of the statewide Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Program Improvement and Certification process is to promote and recognize educational excellence in Family and Consumer Sciences Education at local sites. This voluntary recognition process is initiated by local FCS staff and completed in cooperation with FCS State Staff.

The process is based upon nine criteria, with quality indicators, for excellence in FCS programs at secondary schools, including middle, junior and high schools as well as Regional Occupational Centers/Programs (ROCPs).   Programs which meet all nine quality criteria will be individually certified as a Program of Excellence.

Criteria for the Program of Excellence is being revised to be alined with the 11 Elements of a High Quality CTE, California State Plan for Career Technical Education.
